Throughout my research I came across a few different types of self-assessment tools that range from quick exit slips to time consuming rubrics. I implemented many of these into the classroom and wrote about how it worked with grade two students.
Margin Symbols are symbols or drawings that students write in the margins or beside their work to indicate what was easy, challenging, or stretched their understanding

Sentence starters can guide students writing in meaningful ways. For older students this would be an excellent quick exit slip.

Portfolios are another great way for students to showcase their work, and decide why it is good work with evidence. These also allow for great exemplars for them in the future and students can see their growth throughout the school year.
