“Self-assessment is defined as a process by which students:
1. Monitor and evaluate the quality of their thinking and behaviour when learning.
2. Identify strategies that improve their understanding and Skills.”

Self-assessment includes two main components self-monitoring and self-judgement. Self-monitoring is “focused attention to some aspect of behaviour or thinking” (McMillan & Hearn, 2009, p. 40). Self-judgement is “identifying progress toward targeted performance” (McMillan & Hearn, 2009, p. 40).
