This step is imperative without it studies have found that students will not self-assess thoroughly and accurately without the opportunity to improve. I found that many of my students can identify where they are lacking but do nothing to fix or change their work to improve. At the end of their self assessments I have now asked them to write a goal for next time. Davies et.al (2017) also recommends this by adding a line at the end of self assessment that simply states, next time.
